This is my second painting of Camp Birch Dining Hall.

In this painting, I added some scouts in a canoe and a couple fishing from the bank.

There is also a troop going to chow.

Rock House Hocking Hills

What a beautiful place!   Hocking Hills south of Columbus Ohio is another great place to visit.  There are many rock formations and waterfalls.

For me the best time is the Fall.  This photo was taken at the Rock House.  I crawled back in the rocks and used the opening to frame the photo.

Yellow Springs . . .  Glen Helen . . . John Bryan State Park . . . . Clifton Gorge.

All in Ohio, all in the same area.

All these parks are connected in a beautiful place that I never grow tired of visiting. So much to photograph and paint.

I hope you have the chance to go and see this place.  This photo is of the “Yellow Springs”.  The red color of the water comes from the iron.   Sometimes the kids will paint their faces with the iron, and a lot of locals profess this water is good mineral water to drink.

Yellow Springs

This is a collection of  photos from the 2010 Cox Arboretum Orchid Show held during  February 2010.  There were many, many awesome orchids.   These flower gardeners and growers have certainly put a lot of love and hard work into keeping these flowers alive.  Without these people, some of the orchid types would now be extinct.

Sun Flower Friends

I painted the sun flower as if it was a meeting place for the birds to rest, eat and talk.  This is a sunflower and bird lover’s favorite.   I hope you enjoy it too!

I am posting this on February 21, 2010.  Here in Beavercreek Ohio there is still snow on the ground, but we’ve had a warmer day today in the 30′s (farenheit).

Spring is coming soon!  and it will be time to plant the sunflowers!

I woke up early one Saturday morning about 6:30 and went to Caesar Creek in Waynesville, Ohio.

I sat on the North Pool Boat Ramp and watched the world change from the sacred night to another beautiful day.

I was like being a kid in a candy shop, watching the lake change with the light and a kaleidoscope of colors.

Sunrise at Caesar Creek

Cricket Hollow

I did this painting at Mary Help of Christian Festival, Fairborn, Ohio,in 2004. This painting is of a creek almost frozen over in a deep hollow.   It is a black and white, except for the bird and a few tinges of blue.

While I was in the middle of painting this, a family member stopped at my booth and thought the painting was a little unusual and said “Have you lost your mind?  What place is that?”

I replied, “It’s just a painting from my mind.”

I took the painting home and hung it on the wall to dry.   Not even two weeks passed before a friend came by the house.  He stopped and looked and looked at the painting.  He said, “I can’t believe it, my wife and I just came back from a canoe trip and that painting looks just like that place.”   I was very surprised since this was just a painting from my mind and he purchased it on the spot.

It just goes to show one more time that as an artist you will sometimes be surprised that what some people think odd will be treasured by someone else.

Peacock

“Peacock” is accomplished in traditional oil and was finished in 2005.

Here is a tidbit about my life:   I think I was born with a brush and drawing pen (smile)!

When I was little my mom moved a lot.  Often, she’d pull the couch or a dresser or bed away from the wall to get it ready to go on the moving truck.  There, on the wall would be a drawing.

When I was about 8 years old, I was walking down an alley and saw all these beautiful colors of yellows, reds, blues, and greens ahead.  They turned out to be cans of old house paint thrown out from one of the neighbors.  From then on, those drawings behind the couch became murals.  I used any paint I could find.

I can still hear mom yelling out, “Tommy!”  Of course the house paints would go, but somehow I always found more at the next place.

Mom had to paint those walls, and sometimes it took three or four coats.  Bless her heart!
