Apple Blossom

Spring is coming!  Here in Ohio most of us can’t wait.  The day I posted this to my site is February 28 and there is snow on the ground and cold.  However, the weather men and women say next week is to be in the 30s with night temps in the 20s.  We are slowly getting there!

These blossoms are painted in wet on wet oils in Spring 2009.  It amazes me how a blossom becomes a fruit.

Winter Cabin

This painting is dedicated to my friend, Ed,  who is passed away.

Every year in January, he would go cross country skiing up north for 2 weeks.

I always remember him coming back after vacation and he’d look so relaxed and at peace.

One time he went, around noon a blizzard blew in, and he was skiing on a frozen lake pulling a sled.  It was tough going and getting late and he saw a faint outline of a cabin which is one of the cabins provided by the local community.   It was stocked with firewood and a few provisions.

He made it to the cabin just as the sun was  setting, opened the door, and skied right in.  It was dark inside, and he his lantern.   Someone had already laid a fire in the stove.  With a match from a jar above the stove he lit fire in stove.  It felt great to be inside and not have to set up a tent. The next morning the blizzard was gone and the morning sun was beautiful.

My friend, Ed, knew that God was watching over him, and he was thankful for that little cabin of warmth and shelter.
