This painting captures two sleighs out on a cold winter evening.  One sleigh has a couple who are out for a ride.  The other is full of children nestled in a bed of straw.

The two sleighs meet at the bridge and wait for one to cross before the other can go.

When I think of New England, I think of the gentle rolling hills of pine and of the rock ledges poking out of the ground all over the place.  That is what I am trying to capture in this painting.

The church always seems to be the center of the town.  This is because church was also used school and town hall meetings.

Every year I try to paint a new winter scene with horse and sleigh, and this is one of them.

It was the first of spring and I was taking photos at Carriage Hill Farm (Dayton Ohio).  I stopped to take some photos of these horses.

I think they enjoyed getting their picture taken as much as I enjoyed taking their picture.

This brought back a memory of  my great grandfather.  He would say to me, “do not point your ears back at me.”  Which means do not get upset.

I picked this photo because of the angles of the horses, the shadows, and the contrast of the light and dark horses.
