Garden, Mother’s Garden, Watercolor Garden, Traditional Watercolor Painting
Posted by TOM - 18 October 2009 at 07:10 pmI did this water color of “Mother’s Garden” in 2005 as a commission.
The commission was from a daughter to paint her mother’s yard because her mother was going to live in a retirement home. The mother had worked many years in her yard and loved her goldfish pond. It was very hard for her to leave. The daughter gave this painting to her mother as a gift.
I did this painting from an aerial view to capture the essence of the entire yard. This painting, like all my commissions, also has special memories for me. I visited this place and the mother a few times and could feel just how special it was for both the mother, her daughter, and the entire family.

Doing commissions or illustrating a memory book are very special to me. I always tell people “make memories.” I will share a little about this memory: The lady (I did this for) and her family left Russia about 60 years ago and came to United States. They started their lives here in US and did not know English language. They first lived in a town in Ohio and then built this home in a rural area of Ohio.
