While on short family vacation in May 2009 to Cleveland Ohio we took a train ride–our first ever– on the scenic railway through the Cuyahoga Valley.   This was something we had wanted to do for a long time, and I think we are hooked on the  idea of taking a longer train ride in the future.

While awaiting departure at the train station, I captured these teasles against the clean blue, pastel sky.

We chose the 3- hour National Park Scenic excursion which departed from Rockside Station. Reaching its destination in Akron Northside, the train simply went back to Rockside in reverse (there’s an engine on both ends of the vintage train allowing it to travel both directions without a round table).

There was a food car too, which made the trip more enjoyable, but it was a little different to walk on a swaying train especially between two cars.  I never knew before that there were names given to each vintage car and I found this very interesting.

God was truly blessing me that day.   I was allowed, with permission and with staff supervision, to stand on the platform connecting two cars for most of the trip.  It was the best way to see the scenes, and as an artist and photographer, I could not pass up that opportunity!    Go to   Cyohoga Scenic Valley Railway site  if you’d like more info.
